NATIONAL NURSES DAY IN KITGUM 9-12 MAY 2018

THEME: Nurses are called to save lives

Guest of Honour: His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the president of the Republic of Uganda

The occasion started at 9:30 am with the marching spearheaded by the various participating Institutions. There were also the representatives from Southern Sudan, Chairperson, Nurses Union, LC V Kitgum District, Kitgum Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Anywar.

Here, the Chairperson Nurses Union forwarded task to the president which among others stood as below;

  • Salary increment
  • Support to the Nurses SACCO
  • Compensation of Nurses who get injured at the work places
  • Further training-Scholarship
  • Acquisition of land title for the Nurses Union
  • Improvement of Medical Equipment
  • Reduction of Cost  paid by Nurses while in training in Uganda

In response to the above issues, His Excellency promised One Billion Shillings for the Nurses to support their SACCO which will be effective in the new FY; Scholarship offered to 18 Nurses per year following the old 18 Districts, basing on  each region like Acholi, Teso, Lango among others.

He also promised to have the medical equipment improved, construction of Nurses houses to improve on Accommodation

All in all, the occasion was highly collaborated although some institutions were not represented.
